Shawn follows the traditional teachings of Hatha Yoga. He believes that practice is not an exercise. It is a sequence of rhythmic, embodied movements that effectively promote foundations in body & mind that are necessary for supporting one’s experience with spiritual energies. The practice, therefore, cultivates essential and vital patterns while orchestrating resourcefulness for daily activities.
Hatha Yoga is considered the safest, least risky practice that prepares the body & mind for the subtle and demanding practices of pranayama and meditation. It is considered an energetic practice with the principles of strength and flexibility derived from the transformative qualities of stability, circulation, fluidity and power.
“Hatha Yoga is a system of self-cultivation by which the individual frees himself from the burden of the world and its bondage. This cannot be achieved through superficial work. One must begin at the root and grow slowly, grow with patience and grow through persistence. Boredom is overcome by paying keen attention to the activity.”

Of note: Shawn’s classes are not a substitute for an individual’s specific therapeutic needs. Participating in class is an practice in rhythm and awareness with movement, an approach to enhance supportive qualities which opens doors to one’s own healing potential. It is important to acknowledge your limitations and move in accordance with those limitations, and address personal therapeutic needs in private sessions.
