“May you allow the wild beauty
of the invisible world
to gather you,
and embrace you
in belonging.” – from For the Senses by John O’Donohue
In the spectacle of wonder, the experience of discovery etches in my mind something truly special. The AH-HA, that arises from something that was told to me, shown to me, described to me, and in that experience was a mental or shelved memory. A knowledge only from that the ability to remember. Recall from mind is much different than from something in the heart.
And then……one day that memory meets a felt experience that embraces me and draws me into a new relationship to what I was taught, shown or described. Sometimes, those moments of discovery are reconnections to something that was forgotten, understood in a different way, or even lost, and the discovery sparks a path of rejuvenation and renewal.
Excitement rises from grief,
wonder from bewilderment, and
vitality from the mundane.
I realized that I can be encompassed and embraced by the magic in nature…clarity – the thing I couldn’t see on my last hike in the forest appears. The same is in embodied practices, such as Hatha Yoga, the arts like music and painting. We practice, and we practice, and we go out on the same trail, eyes wide open in wonder, not fear, not looking for it, and something appears that brings us closer to the unseen wonders of the body healing, the mind creating, nature unveiling a broader perspective of our world around us.
I love observing when my clients and students have that AH-HA moment, when they have discovered something essential within themselves, that they allowed themselves to experience something powerful and natural in the vulnerable state of pain, and/or dis-ability. Development and cultivating new ways of being require a palate of experiences – the challenges, the peaceful and everything in-between – and a means to synergize them like mixing of colors as an artist, or flavors and food combinations by the chef.
The world becomes more vital when everything you have experienced and bring together changes you. You become internally alive with the orchestration of this revolutionary change. Everyone has an innate desire and willingness to be alive, and the body is essential in supporting this.
May you be embraced by the wildness and beauty in your own experiences and journey.
